On child sexual abuse: Does the pope really get it? Yes
As a Catholic mother raising my children in the faith, I recoiled in horror when the sexual abuse crisis crested in the media six years ago. One question nagged me: Does the pope really get it? Does he understand what his brother bishops and priests have done and how much people are hurting?

A mother whose life embraces children --- and the world
Mothers for a long time have not been limited to a vocation defined by having raised children. We have also worked hard to try to make the world better.

Hugging Mom, in person or in the heart
It's three years now since we lost Mom, and while Mother's Day prompts these memories, in truth thoughts of Mom are with me --- joyfully --- every day.

Italian Catholics changed my perspective on the death penalty
I was not always against the death penalty. Like earthquakes, I accepted the death penalty as part of life in California.
