'I'm hoping for a happiness that defies description'
I'm a 28-year-old Catholic American who, on Feb. 13, took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience with the Father Kolbe Missionaries of the Immaculata in West Covina, a worldwide secular institute of pontifical right dedicated to leading all men to Jesus through Mary.

Turning inner chaos into a peaceful garden
Almost all spiritualities have a special place for deserts, wilderness, and other such places where we are unprotected and in danger from untamed nature, wild beasts and threatening spirits. This concept has deep roots inside both ancient religions and the human psyche itself.

'Doubt' and the Second Week of Lent: Transfiguration
The film "Doubt" gives us a chance, in the second week of Lent, to confront our own doubts as we continue to journey into this sacred season. The film is really a parable, which means that it has, like the parables of Jesus, a deeper meaning than just the original story.

Catholic lawyers' group: Bringing out 'the best in themselves'
On March 13, the Los Angeles Catholic Lawyers Association will host a Lenten Retreat for attorneys, judges and others at the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, Los Angeles.

Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus --- and on those in need
Consider both of these pressing issues during your Lenten journey: the opportunity for children to remain in our Catholic schools, and comprehensive immigration reform to be enacted by Congress.

Planting the seeds of vocations
Catholic schools are a natural starting point --- but there are lots of ways to make it happen.

A Prayer for Priestly Vocations
Catholic of the archdiocese are invited to pray fervently for priestly vocations.
