Honoring the memory of Cesar

Friday, 23 March 2012 00:00

The annual Mass celebrating Cesar Chavez’s commitment to the struggle for justice and dignity for all workers was celebrated March 18 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Archbishop José Gomez was the principal celebrant and Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers that Chavez founded in 1962, spoke at the end of Mass, one of several events this year marking the UFW’s 50th anniversary of service on behalf of American farm workers. Also present were hundreds of farm workers, labor union members, community leaders and members of the Chavez family. A lifelong Catholic, Chavez died April 23, 1993 at age 66.

Prayer of the Month

Papal intentions for May: That administrators of justice may act always with integrity and right conscience; That seminaries, especially those of mission churches, may form pastors after the Heart of Christ, fully dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel.
