How great is our faith?

Friday, 19 August 2011 00:00

Editor’s note: The following column for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time was inadvertently omitted from last week’s Tidings. This week, we are running Bill Peatman’s column for both the 20th and 21st Sundays, with our apologies for the error.

Today’s first reading shares a powerful vision of what God wants our spiritual communities to be: “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”

Mass translations: A challenge in every language

Wednesday, 10 August 2011 12:08

In Italian the verbs "to translate" and "to betray" sound very similar and have given birth to the adage, "To translate is to betray."

They are often sudden, overwhelming events that destroy lives and livelihoods. Insurance companies refer to these kinds of events as “acts of God.” Are they?

Prayer of the Month

Papal intentions for May: That administrators of justice may act always with integrity and right conscience; That seminaries, especially those of mission churches, may form pastors after the Heart of Christ, fully dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel.
