The laity: ‘Called by God to exercise their apostolate in the world like leaven’

The Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity (Apostolicam Actuositatem), promulgated by the Church fathers at Vatican II on Nov. 18, 1965, declared that the laity should influence their surroundings with Christ's teachings.

This week, as part of its ongoing series on the golden anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, The Tidings presents excerpts from Apostolicam Actuositatem, whose words offer remarkable timeliness, even 47 years after the document’s promulgation, and certainly connect with Archbishop José Gomez’ recent pastoral letter, “Witness to the New World of Faith.”
