African American Catholics honor pioneers at St. Odilia

African American Catholics gathered Nov. 12 at St. Odilia Church in Los Angeles to honor more than 50 pioneering Black Catholics who in the early 1900s congregated for the first time locally to worship together.

Alverno equestrians earn top honors at area competitions

Hours of riding practice, weekends spent in the barn and an endless affinity for their horses unite two Alverno students who are making their mark in the local equestrian scene. As athletes, sophomore Tessa Brandstater and junior Eryn Blakely are showcasing the stamina and strength it takes to ride and guide their horses, all the while experiencing a great connection between human and animal.

Home tour benefits St. John Vianney Church

There’s a saying among committees: If you suggest an idea, be prepared to take ownership of it. Ann Dunbar learned that lesson when she was brainstorming with her fellow parishioners at St. John Vianney Church in Hacienda Heights about fundraisers to help rebuild their church which was destroyed by fire last April.
