Across the country: Voices and action for life

Friday, 27 January 2012 00:00

Across the U.S. last weekend, Masses, marches and rallies were held in accordance with the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the country. Approximately 3,000 people filled the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles Jan. 21 for the “Requiem for the Unborn: Mass that featured 150 candles lit --- one for each child aborted in Los Angeles on an average day --- and placed in view of commuters travelling the 101 Freeway through downtown. In San Francisco, tens of thousands of pro-life activists massed in front of City Hall and then filled the city's main thoroughfare Jan. 21, walking two miles down Market Street to the Embarcadero. In Washington, D.C., participants at the annual March for Life were urged not to let themselves be compromised in their beliefs. "Threats against life and against the consciences of those who say 'yes' to life must be met with timely and unwavering action, in our families and institutions, and yes, in the public square," said Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities.
