Local Events: Caspary Lecture features Sr. Dodge Nov. 6

LOS ANGELES --- Sister of St. Louis Terry Dodge, long active in ministry to women released from prison, will be featured at the annual Anita Caspary Lecture Series, presented by the Immaculate Heart Community Nov. 6, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the American Film Institute, 2021 N. Western Ave., Los Angeles.

 

Sister Dodge is executive director of Crossroads Inc. in Claremont, which provides transitional housing, education, career and counseling services for former women prisoners. Admission is $20 ($16 seniors and students). Information: (323) 466-2157 or www.immaculateheartcommunity.org.

St. Bernardine of Siena hosts adult faith enrichment talks
WOODLAND HILLS --- St. Bernardine of Siena’s adult faith enrichment program will present a two-part series in November on “Jesus, Paul and Power” with Dr. Rick Talbott, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Religious Studies, California State University, Northridge.

The two sessions taking place Nov. 3 and Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall will explore and compare how Jesus and Paul were shaped by and responded to ancient systems and institutions of oppressive power using the synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of Thomas and the authentic writings of Paul, especially 1 Corinthians. St. Francis de Sales holds annual All Souls Day Concert
SHERMAN OAKS --- The St. Francis de Sales Choir and Wagner Ensemble will present its 7th annual All Souls Day Concert Nov. 5, 7 p.m., at the church. Under the direction of Jeannine Wagner, the combined choirs will perform two major works: Requiem by Gabriel Fauré and Cantata Misericordium by Benjamin Britten, accompanied by orchestra and organist Steve Park. A reception follows the performance.

Tickets are $15. In commemoration of All Souls Day, people donating $50 or more will receive admission for four as well as the opportunity to have two loved ones’ names recited and printed in the program.
