Cathedral hosts 10th anniversary 9/11 memorial concert

Written by Admin Tuesday, 16 August 2011 14:11

In marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Angeles Chorale, in partnership with the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, will hold a concert free to the public at the cathedral located in downtown Los Angeles, site of the first memorial observance the year following the attacks, as part of the planned nationwide events and observances.

The 120-member Angeles Chorale, along with the OLA Cathedral Choir, will be performing a selection of works chosen by noted choir conductor John Sutton, including Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem,” to remember the events a decade ago and celebrate the lives of those affected by this national tragedy.

“The Angeles Chorale felt the 10th anniversary was an important time to look back on those tragic events and use the power and elegance of choral music to give perspective, meaning and understanding as we look at how the events of 9/11 have shaped us,” Sutton said. “We are especially grateful to Archbishop José H. Gomez for the opportunity to hold this event at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels.”

The Angeles Chorale is a volunteer organization of auditioned, professional-level choral singers and its mission to perform world class music to enrich our diverse community.

The Remembrance Concert for 9/11 will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, located at 555 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles. For more information, call (213) 680-5200 or visit www.angeleschorale.org or on www.facebook.com/AngelesChorale.

Papal intentions for June: That a culture of dialogue, listening, and mutual respect may prevail among peoples; That where secularization is strongest, Christian communities may effectively promote a new evangelization.
