LMU study shines spotlight on inner-city Catholic schools

In the second phase of a longitudinal study examining the impact Catholic schools have on minority and disadvantaged students, researchers at Loyola Marymount University School of Education found that local Catholic schools better prepare these normally underserved students than their public school counterparts.

Father, son to be invested as ‘Knights’ in ancient Order

Moving its annual investiture ceremony to the west coast for the first time, The United States Delegation of The Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George and the Royal Order of Francis I will receive new members during a public concelebrated Mass with Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and Archbishop José Gomez at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels July 16 at 3 p.m.

L.A. Catholic Prayer Breakfast set Sept. 20 at Cathedral

Bringing together many diverse elements (and age groups) of the local Catholic community, the seventh annual Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast will be held Sept. 20 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

The event was launched after several Los Angeles area Catholic business leaders had attended the annual National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., in the spring of 2005, and wondered about the potential for doing something similar in Los Angeles.

New Maryvale Center: A dream further realized in Duarte

In a year marking the Daughters of Charity’s 155 years of service to the Church in Los Angeles, a celebration took place last weekend that symbolized the religious community’s historic dedication to those in need.

On July 9, Archbishop José H. Gomez blessed the new Maryvale Family Resource and Early Education Center sponsored by the Daughters of Charity in Duarte.
