And what is it that they’re trying to do? What they are trying to do is what all of us are trying to do. We’re seeking God. That’s what the Carmelite vocation is — seek the face of God and to be open and free to say: ‘I want to walk to Jesus.’ That’s what they’re doing.

CARA: Fewer priests celebrate more Masses at fewer parishes

More U.S. Catholics are attending Masses at fewer parishes staffed by a rapidly declining corps of priests, according to a new report on "The Changing Face of U.S. Catholic Parishes."

Produced by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate for the Emerging Models of Pastoral Leadership project of five national Catholic ministerial organizations, the report documents what it calls the "supersizing" of U.S. Catholic parish life.

Pain relief: Familiar priority for Catholic palliative care teams

CRS seeks to aid Cambodia in economic recovery efforts

Cambodia is slowly working on its economic recovery, promoting tourism and investing in education and agriculture. But the formerly communist country is still struggling with a high percentage of poverty, especially in rural areas, where education and health care are scarce.

To support the local community, Catholic Relief Services — which reopened its office in Cambodia in 1992 — is developing a five-year strategy focusing on family healthcare and education, according to Kellie Hynes, CRS’ Cambodia office director, who visited Los Angeles in late June on her way to meeting in the agency’s Baltimore headquarters.

Glendora parishioners assist in building Kenya parish, school

St. Dorothy Church parishioners Michelle Black and Danielle Vidiello still keep a fresh image of the day they left for Kenya five summers ago carrying eight heavy suitcases.

“We had everything you could possibly think of,” Black said. “All kinds of construction supplies: welding masks, nails, screws, saws and toys.”
