Doctors to be honored at Little Sisters Gala
Physicians who regularly volunteer at the medical wing of the Little Sisters of the Poor's Jeanne Jugan Residence in San Pedro were honored at the Sisters'11th annual fundraiser on June 21.

Acknowledged were Doctors Carmen Capodanno, Virginia Gonzalez, Russell Grootegoed, Gregg Makovic, Carl Mossberg, Joseph Rodd, Guillermo Rubiano, Krupa Shah, Peter Sliskovich, Pacita Tan and Mark Wagner. Because of their dedication, residents have access to early diagnostic and follow-up care that helps to maintain and often improve the quality of their lives, said Carol Stutzke, event co-chair.

For information on the Little Sisters of the Poor, call (310) 548-0625.

'Compassion' retreat set at Mary & Joseph
"Compassion: Hope for Our Troubled World," a daylong retreat, will be presented July 12 at the Mary & Joseph Retreat Center in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Father Bill Garcia will lead the 10 a.m.-4 p.m. retreat that will focus on compassion as it is viewed in Scripture and in the teachings of the Catholic Church, with practical applications for personal spirituality and the call to be instruments of compassion for others in today's world.

There will be time for private prayer and group sharing. The day will end with the celebration of Mass. For information: call (310) 377-4867, ext. 234.
