Chavez Mass draws hundreds at Cathedral

text only version

Hundreds of farm workers, day laborers, union members and civic and religious leaqders gathered April 6 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to honor the legacy of Cesar E. Chavez, a lifelong Catholic and founder of the United Farm Workers, at the eighth annual Archdiocesan Mass in Chavez' memory.

Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Solis presided and Deacon Valentin Saucedo was the homilist at the Mass, which celebrated Chavez' commitment to the struggle for justice and dignity for all low-wage workers. In these photos, Bishop Solis greets Cesar Chavez' son Paul, president of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation. A photo of the farm labor leader (taken by Vida Nueva editor Victor Aleman) is carried in by farm workers during the gathering procession.
