Liturgical calendar advisory for 2008

The Office for Worship has issued the following advisory for liturgical feasts and celebrations this year in the archdiocese:

Saturday, March 15, is the solemnity of St. Joseph, moved to this date because March 19 falls during Holy Week this year.
Monday, March 17, Monday of Holy Week. The Chrism Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at 7 p.m.
Thursday-Sunday, March 20-23 is the Easter Triduum.
Monday. March 31, is the solemnity of the Annunciation, moved to this date because March 25 falls during the Octave of Easter.
Sunday, May 4, is the solemnity of the Ascension, always transferred from the previous Thursday.
Sunday, May 11, is the solemnity of Pentecost, the last day of the Easter season.
Friday, August 15, is the solemnity of the Assumption, a holy day of obligation.
Tuesday, September 2, is the anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, a solemnity at the Cathedral and a feast in other parishes of the Archdiocese.
Thursday, September 4, is the feast of Our Lady of the Angels, principal patroness of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Saturday, November 1, is the solemnity of All Saints, not a holy day of obligation this year because it falls on a Saturday.
Sunday, November 2, is the feast of All Souls. This feast takes precedence over the Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Monday, December 8, is the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The Immaculate Conception is always a holy day of obligation, even when it falls on a Saturday or a Monday, because Mary is honored as the patroness of the United States under this title.
Friday, December 12, is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Thursday, December 25, is the solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, a holy day of obligation.
Thursday, January 1, 2009, is the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, not a holy day of obligation in the province of California.
