Transfiguration Church revival: Jan. 18-20

Transfiguration Church in South Los Angeles will host its Annual Revival Jan. 18-20 at 7 p.m. Franciscan Father James Goode will conduct the three-day revival and "bring much needed faith and healings through the Word of God to our community," said Father Richard Martini, pastor. "As a nationally recognized African-American evangelist, his participation during the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is ideal." Father Goode has preached more than 300 Black Catholic Revivals nationwide. He also is the pastoral leader of Solid Ground Ministry for Black families headquartered in New York City. The Jan. 19 session will focus on issues dealing with teens and young adults. Jan. 20 will emphasize healing, and conclude with a revival liturgy. Symposium on systemic oppression: Feb. 9

A day-long symposium on how systemic oppression impacts the lives of women and children takes place Feb. 9 at Mount St. Mary's College Doheny Campus, 10 Chester Place, Los Angeles. Keynote speaker Holy Name Sister Catherine Ferguson will discuss the plight of women and children in today's world community in light of her work consulting with the United Nations. Breakout sessions led by women with knowledge in a particular area will focus on economic development, education, immigration, gender equality and the empowerment of women, healthcare, human trafficking and environmental sustainability.
