St. Bede School drama club presents comedies
Members of St. Bede School's drama club will perform three one-act plays in the parish hall Nov. 16, 7 p.m. The family-friendly comedies will include, "Happy Thanksgiving!," "Chicken Little (and Friends)," and "Add A Little Flavor."
Since the beginning of the school year, over 50 drama club members from grades 1 to 8 have been developing their theater arts skills including acting, costuming, set and prop design and choreography. The club is under the direction of feature film and television veteran DeeDee Montesanto-Fried.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students/children. St. Bede is located at 4524 Crown Ave., La Caņada.
Louisville HS receives R.O.S.E. award
Louisville High School in Woodland Hills was named a 2007 R.O.S.E. Award winner by the Woodland Hills-Tarzana Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.
The R.O.S.E. ("Recognizing Outstanding Schools in Education") award is given to selected accredited public, private and parochial schools in the chamber of commerce area for excellence in teaching and mentoring students.
Among the three winners receiving the R.O.S.E. award this year, one high school, Louisville, an all-girls' college preparatory school owned and operated by the Sisters of St. Louis, and two private elementary schools were honored. School officials attended an Oct. 26 awards luncheon at the Woodland Hills Hilton.
"All the nominated schools work diligently at providing quality education at a time when it is imperative to give our future leaders and workforce the best education available," said Debbi Lund, chair of the education committee. Each school received recognition from government officials and agencies, along with a monetary award.
Santa Rosa School celebrates Red Ribbon Week
Kicking off Red Ribbon Week (Oct.23-31) promoting a drug-free lifestyle, Santa Rosa School in San Fernando held an outdoor assembly at the school grounds Oct. 24 with a BMX bicycle stunt show.
The BMX stunt riders showed off high-flying tricks to the delight of the student body, who were wearing red t-shirts with a winning logo designed by a Santa Rosa student. The church and school were decorated with red "hands" signed by students and parishioners symbolizing that the parish has joined hand-in-hand to guard the community against drugs. |
