Fr. John O'Connor
A Memorial Mass was celebrated Oct. 2 at St. Emydius Church in Lynwood for Father John C. O'Connor, a retired priest of the archdiocese, who died Sept. 23 while vacationing in Ireland.
Born in Knocknagree, County Cork, Ireland, he attended St. Patrick Seminary in Thurles, Ireland where he was ordained on June 11, 1961 for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
During many years of ministry in the archdiocese, he served as an associate at Maria Regina, Gardena; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Newport Beach; Sts. Felicitas and Perpetua, San Marino; St. Louise de Marillac, Covina; Our Lady of Lourdes, Northridge; St. Athanasius, Long Beach; Our Lady of Loretto, Los Angeles; Our Lady of Refuge, Long Beach; Annunciation, Arcadia; and St. Thomas Aquinas, Monterey Park.
From 1987-88, Father O'Connor was a chaplain at Rancho Los Amigos County Hospital in Downey. During his chaplaincy, he served as an associate at St. Raymond Church in Downey and later was an associate pastor and senior priest at St. Emydius until his retirement in 2005. He resided at St. Emydius in retirement.
Father O'Connor is survived by four brothers (including Father Donal O'Connor) and one sister as well as a large extended family. Funeral Mass was held Sept. 25 at Christ the King Church in Knocknagree, Ireland.
Madalena Tran
A Memorial Service was held Sept. 26 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Canoga Park for Madalena Tran, 80, who died Sept. 20. She was the mother of Father Francis Ty Bui, associate pastor at St. Joseph the Worker. Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 29 at Blessed Sacrament Church, Westminster. Burial was at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach. |
