The annual Fair Trade month is kicking off with the first Just Lives Festival Sept. 30 to raise awareness of fair trade, sweatshop-free and local goods. Fairly traded goods from around the world, education booths and music will be showcased from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hollywood Farmers' Market (Ivar & Selma Ave., Hollywood). Catholic Relief Services' Jacqueline DeCarlo, author of "Fair Trade: A Beginner's Guide" will give a presentation on the need for sustainable and just economies worldwide from 10-11 a.m. at Groundwork Café at Cahuenga and Sunset streets. The archdiocesan Office of Justice and Peace is one of the festival sponsors. |
