Spirit and Law Convention: Oct. 1-7
The fourth annual Spirit and Law Convention, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, will take place Oct. 1-7 at the Archdiocesan Catholic Center, 3424 Wilshire Blvd. The featured speakers are Oblate of Mary Immaculate Father Francis Morrisey, a canon lawyer and editor of Studia Canonica, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Kathryn Pierce, an expert in cross-cultural ministry who works with International Consultation Services in Detroit. Workshops will address marriage, tribunal ministry, liturgy, ordained ministry and Scripture; some will be presented in Spanish and Vietnamese. For information, call the Tribunal Office, (213) 637-7296.

Red Mass: Oct. 2
The annual Red Mass for members of the legal profession in Southern California takes place Oct. 2, 5:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Principal celebrant is Cardinal Roger Mahony and the homilist is Msgr. Clement Connolly. A tradition dating back to the 11th century, the annual Red Mass is widely attended by judges, lawyers and officials of all faiths so as to invoke God's blessing and guidance in the administration of justice. Collaborators with the archdiocesan Office of Metropolitan Tribunal will also attend the liturgy. The Mass is sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society.
