Cathedral to host annual
Santo Niņo Fiesta Mass

text only version

The annual archdiocesan feast day celebration in honor of the Santo Niņo will take place in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Jan. 21, 3:30 p.m.

Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Solis, Vicar for Ethnic Ministry, will preside at the Fiesta Mass, concelebrated with auxiliary bishops of the San Gabriel, San Fernando, San Pedro and Santa Barbara pastoral regions as well as priests of the archdiocese.

This special feast brings together the many Santo Niņo organizations of the archdiocese, with large representations from the Filipino and Hispanic communities. According to Sal Pilar, president of Santo Niņo Cruzada, USA, sponsor of the event for the third consecutive year, "The cultural significance of this yearly fiesta not only enhances the Filipino and Hispanic communities but also brings to the open the religious cultures of other ethnic groups."

Fiesta Mass participants may bring small statutes of the Santa Niņo to raise up for a special pastoral blessing by Bishop Solis during the liturgy. No statues are to be brought to the altar or the sanctuary. A Filipino tradition, the "Sinulog" dance, will follow immediately after the procession of the Image of the Santo Niņo around the Cathedral plaza.
