| Fr. Peter McGee, longtime St. Anthony of Padua pastor, dies
Funeral Mass was held Nov. 14 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Gardena for Father Peter Joseph McGee, 77, longtime pastor, who died on Nov. 6.
Born in Tuam, County Galway, Ireland, Father McGee made his seminary studies at St. Patrick's College in Thurles. He was ordained in Ireland on June 14, 1953 and two weeks later was sent to serve in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
From 1953-1973, Father McGee served as an associate pastor at St. Thomas More, Alhambra; St. Anthony of Padua, Gardena; St. Anthony, El Segundo; St. Mary, Fullerton; Annunciation, Arcadia; and St. Gerard Majella, Los Angeles. After serving as administrator of Queen of Angels in Lompoc from 1973-75, Father McGee was named pastor of St. Anthony of Padua, where he spent 25 years until retiring in 2000, whereupon he was named pastor emeritus.
Interment will be in Ireland.
Br. Cruz Pettinato, CMF
Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 30 at San Gabriel Mission for Claretian Brother Cruz R. Pettinato, 87, who died at Fernview Convalescent Hospital in San Gabriel on Oct. 23.
A Los Angeles native, Brother Pettinato made his First Profession of Vows as a Claretian Missionary in 1938 at Dominguez Seminary in Rancho Dominguez and took final vows at St. Jude Seminary in Momence, Ill., in 1944. He ministered at several Claretian seminaries, including St. Jude Seminary, Dominguez Seminary and Claretville Seminary in Calabasas.
In 1957, he was assigned to San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio, Texas, followed by assignments at San Gabriel Mission, San Gabriel; Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, Los Angeles; and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, San Antonio. According to his fellow Claretians, "Brother Cruz will always be remembered as a hardworking and tireless missionary."
Deacon James Dillon
Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 30 at St. Benedict Church in Montebello for Deacon James Dillon, who died Oct. 24. Ordained to the permanent diaconate in 1977, he was an active deacon and a volunteer at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at the time of his death.
Born in Illinois, Dillon attended South Pasadena/San Marino High School and received a chemistry degree from Pomona College as well as a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from USC. He spent 35 years in public education, retiring as an associate professor of mathematics from Rio Hondo College.
