FRANCISCAN CHURCH OF YAGUARAN --- This church, built by the Franciscans near Asuncion, is a great example of Spanish-Guarani baroque style. Started in 1640 and finished in 1775, the entire structure is built of strong timbers, not stones. The paintings on the wood, done by the Guarani Indians using native plants for the colors, are still brilliant after 230 years! |
