Workshop on November's ballot initiatives: Oct. 16
A workshop on November's ballot initiatives and the long-term
implications will be facilitated by Sister of Social Service
Marti McCarthy of JERICHO, a statewide, interfaith public
policy organization. The presentations and group discussion
takes place Oct. 16, 7-9 p.m. at the RSHM Provincial Center,

Catholic educational administrators in L.A.: Oct. 22-25
Chief administrators and leaders of Catholic education will
gather in Los Angeles Oct. 22-25 for the annual meeting of
the Chief Administrators of Catholic Education (CACE), a department
of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA).
This year's conference theme is "The Vocation of Leadership: Called and Chosen." All sessions will be held at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza. The conference will provide an opportunity for educational and catechetical leaders to reconnect and re-energize with colleagues. Keynote presentations and an opening liturgy will invite conference attendees to reflect and grow within their ministries.
San Fernando Region Auxiliary Bishop Gerald Wilkerson will celebrate the opening liturgy at Our Lady of Angels Cathedral. Keynote speakers are Dr. Zeni Fox, director of lay ministry and professor of pastoral theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J; and Dr. Michael Downey, professor of systematic theology and spirituality at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo.
Dr. Curtis Hancock, the Joseph M. Freeman chair of philosophy at Rockhurst College and director of The Great Books Academy, will address a general session on elements of recovering Catholic philosophical traditions in education.
NCEA is the largest private, professional education association in the world. Association membership represents more than 200,000 educators serving 7.6 million students in Catholic education at all levels.
Catholic Global Poverty Conference: Oct. 27-28
Catholics,
nationally and globally, will convene in San Francisco Oct.
27-28 for a landmark gathering to mobilize against global
poverty. As part of the Catholic Campaign against Global Poverty,
Catholic Relief Services and the U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops (USCCB) will provide resources for parish staff and
planners to weave education and action on global poverty into
four weeks of liturgies, religious education and faith formation
programs, and youth and young adult ministry.
Individual registration is $100. Special registration fee of $300 for 10 people is available for parishioners outside the San Francisco Archdiocese.
