SCRC set Sept. 1-3

"Strength for the Journey" is the theme of the 35th annual SCRC Catholic Renewal Convention, taking place Labor Day weekend (Sept. 1-3) at the Anaheim Convention Center.

More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the event, whose attractions include a Sept. 1 concert featuring popular Christian musician John Michael Talbot. He will be accompanied by his brother Terry Talbot as well as Tom Booth.

Offering more than 40 workshops, daily liturgies and music concerts, the event features renowned Catholic speakers within the charismatic renewal movement like Sister Antonia Brenner, Franciscan Friar of the Renewal Father Benedict Groeschel, Divine Word Father Michael Manning and Father Robert Faricy.

"Many, many, many of the participants describe the event as an incredible spiritual recharging," said Dominic Berardino, SCRC president. "Many remark how the liturgies are filled with palpable spiritual vitality."

Among the workshop topics are "The Healing Power of the Sacraments," "Healing the Family Tree," "Perseverance, Power, and Peace in Prayer," and "The Blessed Virgin Mary and Strength for the Journey."

"The whole event helps empower and encourage people to bring Gospel values into their daily living," added Berardino.

Organized with families in mind, the weekend features a young adult conference (including workshops, a Friday night social and a Saturday night Jesus and Java fellowship), a teen conference (including live Christian bands), a children's program for elementary grades 1-6 (featuring crafts, games and music), and a young family play area for parents and preschoolers.

Last year more than 800 young adults participated, and this year the general arena liturgies will include personal faith testimonies from young adults. San Fernando Region Auxiliary Bishop Gerald Wilkerson will preside at the closing Mass Sept. 3.

For registration information, call SCRC at (818) 771-1361 or visit its website, www.scrc.org.
