| A symposium on how ordinary choices can affect change throughout the world will feature a keynote address by Immaculate Heart Sister Nancy Sylvester of the Institute for Communal Contemplation and Dialogue in Detroit.
"As justice activists we need to deepen the liberating spiritual impulse within us and our religious tradition," Sister Sylvester said to The Tidings. "We are living at a time when a new paradigm is emerging. It is being shaped by Quantum physics and the discoveries about our Universe. This worldview sees us and all of creation as interconnected living in a web of life. This is a worldview that offers hope for us and challenges us to a transformation of consciousness."
E ach
person's contribution, she continued, "is important in the
future imagining of a world of justice, peace and sustainability."
Additional workshop presenters will discuss the work of socially responsible investors, solidarity with Africa, religious leaders advocating for economic justice, the militarization of society, and human trafficking and modern-day slavery.
The symposium takes place April 29, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Mount St. Mary's College, 10 Chester Pl., Los Angeles. Registration is $15. For more information, call Zonia Dueñas at the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Provincial Center, (323) 887-8821.
