CIF basketball, soccer titles at stake this weekend

Championship round action is scheduled March 3 and 4 in the CIF-Southern Section basketball and soccer playoffs, with several local Catholic schools vying for titles.

In boys basketball, Serra of Gardena takes on Campbell Hall of North Hollywood in the Division IV-AA final at 8:15 p.m. March 3 at Loyola Marymount University.

On March 4 at the Pond of Anaheim, Santa Margarita plays Artesia at 2:15 p.m. in the III-AA final, Mater Dei meets Villa Park in the II-AA final at 8:15 p.m.

The Division III-A girls basketball title will be won by a Catholic school as defending champion Bishop Amat of La Puente is challenged by Bishop Alemany of Mission Hills, 2:45 p.m. on March 4 at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Cal State Long Beach.

Following the CIF championships will be the Southern California and State championship tournaments, with the state titles to be decided March 17 and 18 at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

CIF-SS soccer titles will be decided March 4 in Downey, at Downey and Warren High Schools. At press time, specific sites and times for each match had not been determined.

The boys title matches include Damien against Santa Margarita in the Division I final and Loyola against Temecula Valley in Division II. In girls action, Notre Dame Academy plays Maranatha for the Division V championship.
