Holy Family Church in South Pasadena will hold a forum, "Hunger and Hope in Our World: Sudan to Southern California," on the evenings of Feb. 1, 8 and 15. Sponsored by three parish groups (community services, adult education and social concerns ministry), the event is free and open to the public.
"We hope to touch minds as well as hearts about the scope of local and global poverty and hunger as well as highlight causes and working solutions," said Allis Druffel, director of parish community services. "Through our presentations, we aim to teach people how they can become involved as part of the political will to change."
Guest speakers will be featured at each program, held from 7-8:30 p.m. in the parish auditorium. Guests include documentary filmmaker Gerry Straub, who will screen his film, "When Did I See You Hungry?" (Feb. 1); Thomas Awiapo, a Catholic Relief Services representative from Ghana, C. Dean Freudenberger, retired Claremont College professor, and Allis Druffel (Feb. 8); and Arthur Simon, co-founder of Bread for the World and Jeff Dronkers from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank (Feb. 15).
