2005: Mourning, celebration, devastation and heartache

text only version

The year 2005 was a milestone year for the Catholic Church, with the loss --- after 26 years --- of a beloved pope and the election of a new leader, different in style and personality but equally committed to promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a world not always ready to receive that message.

Last year also witnessed large-scale devastation, at home and abroad --- and the loving response of many of God's people to help those in need attempt to rebuild their lives. Herewith, The Tidings offers a pictorial look at some of the biggest events of the previous year.
