Pueri Cantores to present
Holiday Concert at Cathedral

text only version

Pueri Cantores San Gabriel Valley Children's Choir will offer a concert entitled "The Seven Joys of Christmas and Other Holiday Favorites" at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

"The children are thrilled to have an opportunity to sing a concert of Christmas music in their magnificent cathedral," said director Patrick Flahive. The choir has been singing in the San Gabriel Valley (and around the world) since 1993, and was part of the ground blessing and dedication celebrations for the cathedral.

They will be leaving for Rome the day after Christmas to sing Mass in St. Peter's Basilica on Jan. 1, 2006, with Pope Benedict XVI. The ensemble sang several times for Pope John Paul II.

Music on the program is mostly American, including titles by Kirke Mechem (born 1925) and William Billings (1746-1800), as well as popular favorites and spirituals.

Preceding the concert will be the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in the Cathedral Paza at 6:30 p.m.

There is a suggested donation of $10 for the concert, and the parking in the Cathedral underground lot is a flat rate of $5.

On Dec. 24, Masses at the Cathedral will be celebrated at 4 p.m. (family Mass), 7 p.m. (Spanish), 9 p.m. (English) and Midnight (bilingual, preceded by carols at 11:30 p.m.). On Christmas Day, Masses will be at 8 and 10 a.m. (English) and noon (Spanish).

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is located at 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles. For more information, call (213) 680-5205 or visit the cathedral website at www.olacathedral.org.
