CIF-SS playoffs begin in
volleyball, tennis, water polo

Early round playoff action began this week for Catholic schools competing for CIF-Southern Section championships. Cross Country individual championships will be held, and football playoffs will begin, later this month.

Girls Volleyball

League champions included Mater Dei and Santa Margarita (Serra co-chairs), St. Lucy's (Sierra), Marymount (Sunshine), Connelly (San Joaquin), Alverno (Horizon), Paraclete (Alpha), St. Bernard (Camino Real) and Flintridge Sacred Heart (Mission).

Division II-AA (First Round, Nov. 8): Mater Dei defeated Buena.

Division III-AA (Second Round, Nov. 10): St. Lucy's and Santa Margarita hosted matches after having had first round byes.

Division III-A (First Round, Nov. 10): St. Matthias at Harvard/Westlake; Louisville at Santa Ynez; Bishop Amat hosting Notre Dame Academy.

Division IV-AA (First Round, Nov. 8): Winners included Marymount (over Maranatha), La Salle (over Providence), La Reina (over Malibu), Bishop Conaty-Loretto (over Archer), Connelly (over Serra), Paraclete (over Kern Valley), and Alverno (over Desert Christian). Holy Family lost to Valley Christian, and Mayfield lost to Brentwood.

Girls Tennis

League champions included Mater Dei (Serra) and Villanova Prep (Condor). The Nov. 10 first round matches included:

Division I: Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) at Mater Dei; Rosary at Harvard-Westlake; Santa Margarita at Woodbridge; El Dorado at Chaminade.

Division II: Marymount at Atascadero.

Division III: Bonita at Mayfield.

Division IV: Villanova Prep hosting a wild card winner; Highland at La Reina.

Girls Tennis

League champions included Servite (Serra) and Damien (Sierra). First round matches included:

Division I (Nov. 10): Alemany at Long Beach Wilson; Loyola at Foothill.

Division II (Nov. 11): Santa Ana at Servite; Costa Mesa at Mater Dei.

Division V (Nov. 11): Indio or Temecula Valley at Damien.

Division VI (Nov. 8): La Salle at Walnut; Cathedral at Pasadena Poly.
