Holy Family to host Sacred Art of Dying workshop

PASADENA --- Holy Family Church in South Pasadena will hold a two-day workshop/retreat titled "Understanding Spiritual Pain" on October 14-15 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. The first program in a four-part "Sacred Art of Dying" series, it will address spiritual and physical suffering and offer time-tested ways to relieve pain.

Course instructor, Richard Groves, an internationally respected teacher with advanced degrees in theology, bio-ethnics, world religions and law, will teach life skills based on clinically-sound practices that address the spiritual and emotional issues raised during the dying process. Care-givers, parish leaders and bereavement ministers will particularly benefit from this workshop. Program tuition, including manuals, is $295. Special election workshop will probe initiative issues

MONTEBELLO --- Sister of Social Service Marti McCarthy will present a workshop Oct. 9 from 1-4 p.m. on the complex initiatives and competing issues surrounding California's special election on November 8. The free, non-partisan presentation will be held at the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Provincial Center, 441 N. Garfield Ave., Montebello, Calif. 'Roe' to appear at Spanish Respect Life event

LOS ANGELES --- Norma McCorvey, the "Roe" of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case legalizing abortion, will speak at a respect life presentation for Spanish speakers at Resurrection Church in Los Angeles Oct. 8 from 1-5 p.m. The free event will feature multi-media resources, music and prayer.
