NACPA to hold annual
convocation in L.A.

The National Association of Church Personnel Administrators (NACPA) will hold its annual convocation Oct. 16-19, 2005, at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel in Los Angeles.

The theme of the association's 34th annual meeting -- "Riding the Waves: Navigating Turbulent Water -- Finding the Safe Harbor," reflects current church culture and is for those working in the Catholic Church who are challenged to balance spirituality and business professionalism in the workplace.

The four-day convocation will feature three keynote addresses, twenty-three workshops and two special pre-convocation sessions. The featured keynote speakers include William J. Coy, senior associate, La Piana Associates, Inc. in Oakland and an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco's Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management; Mary Jo Leddy, author of Radical Gratitude and director of Romero House, in Toronto, Canada; and Michael P. Horan, Ph.D., professor of Theological Studies, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

The 34th annual convocation has been approved for 10.5 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Aspecial pre-convocation seminar "Parish Business Managers/ Administrators and Pastors Workshop" on Oct. 15 will be presented by Sharon Hueckel, director of administration, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Claremont; Bill Vondrasek, parish administrator, St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Los Angeles; Mary Kessler, program services director, NACPA; and Tim Lopez, coordinator of maintenance and operations, Riverside County Office of Education. This workshop will cover the four main areas of responsibility of successful parish business administration: finances, facilities, stewardship/development and human resources/ personnel.
