Memorial service planned for LMU student-athletes

A Memorial Mass for LMU women's soccer player, Jessica Hanson, and men's cross country runner, Adam Bacon, will be held Aug. 31, 5 p.m. in the Sacred Heart chapel on the school's campus.

Hanson and Bacon, both standout athletes about to begin their senior seasons at LMU this month, were killed in a car accident Aug. 5 that also killed Hanson's father, Kelly, and another passenger. Jessica's mother, Belinda, and sister, Jacqueline, were injured in the crash, which took place as the family was driving to Lake Havasu for a vacation.

"Our prayers go out to the families of Jessica and Adam. Both typified the best of LMU student-athletes and this world was greatly impacted by them," said LMU Director of Athletics Bill Husak. A funeral Mass for the Hansons was held Aug. 22 at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena. Among the hundreds of mourners were students and staff from Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Jessica's high school alma mater. Information regarding the LMU memorial service for Hanson and Bacon is available at www.lmu.edu and www.LMULions.com.
