Funeral Mass was held July 22 at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse chapel in Fremont for Dominican Sister Mary Helen Bauer, 92, who died July 18.

Born in Los Angeles, Sister Bauer earned her B.A. and elementary teaching credential at Dominican College in San Rafael. She ministered in elementary education and administration for 71 years at Catholic schools throughout California.

Locally, she served as principal at the following schools: St. Ignatius, Los Angeles; St. Boniface, Anaheim; Sacred Heart, Los Angeles; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Santa Barbara. She also taught for a time at San Gabriel School in San Gabriel.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews as well as many colleagues and friends throughout California. Memorial donations may be made to the Dominican Sisters Circles of Caring Fund, 43326 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539.

Philip White Rigali

Funeral Mass was held Aug. 9 at Chapel of the Risen Christ, Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Culver City for Philip White Rigali, who died Aug. 4. A Los Angeles native, Rigali was the brother of Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virginia, and children: Richard, Susie Zampiello, Chris Parenti, Michael, Stephen, Virginia, Yvonne and Vincent as well as siblings: Cardinal Rigali, Jesuit Father Norbert Rigali of San Diego, Carondelet Sister Charlotte Rigali of St. Louis and Henry Rigali of New York. In addition, he is survived by 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sr. Dorothy Noonan, BVM

Funeral Mass was held May 27 at Marian Hall, Mount Carmel, Dubuque, Iowa for Sister of Charity Dorothy Noonan, 97, who died May 24.

Born in Alexis, Illinois, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1930. She taught in Catholic schools located in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and California. During her 17 years as an educator in Southern California, she taught and managed learning centers/computer labs at St. Philip, Pasadena (1972-75); St. Anne, Santa Ana (1977-81); and St. Brendan, Los Angeles (1976-77; 1981-90).

Lois Ruther

Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 17 at St. Philomena Church, Carson, for Louis Ruther, who died Aug. 15. She was the mother of Father William E. Ruther, associate pastor. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Montebello.

Faustino Pérez

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Aug. 19 at Sacred Heart Church, Pomona, for Faustino Pérez, who died Aug. 9. He was the father of the late Father Daniel Pérez, a priest of the archdiocese who died in 2001 at age 34.

Sr. Amadeus Rolinger, SP

Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 16 in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, for Sister of Providence Amadeus (Emma Henrietta) Rolinger, who died Aug. 10. She was 95.

A member of the Sisters of Providence for 76 years, Sister Rolinger taught at Catholic schools in Indiana, Illinois and California, including St. Joseph, Hawthorne (1949-51).

Sr. Dominic Marie Tojo, OP

Funeral Mass was celebrated July 22 at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse in Fremont for Dominican Sister Dominic Marie Tojo, 86, who died July 17.

A native of Japan, Sister Tojo ministered as a librarian in elementary and secondary schools throughout California. In Los Angeles, she served at the following schools: Sacred Heart High School, St. Frances Cabrini School and St. Michael School. She also ministered in childcare and, for a time, did pastoral work with Japanese Catholics in San Francisco.
