Girl Scouts garner bronze award

Girl Scout Troop 327, made up of students from Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and St. Raymond School in Downey, earned the Bronze Award in July. The honor is the highest achievement that can be earned by Junior Girl Scouts.

Sixth-graders Elisabeth Davis, Armanda Brown, Gillian Miguel and Amanda Suarez plus fifth-graders Yvette Lopez, Jenna Wilson, Danielle Triay, Claribel Castanos, Lisa Cervantes, Andrea Gamboz, Ashley Gutierrez, Audrey Lanskie, Jessica Wiese and Nataska Tapanes spent the day with retired Sisters of Social Service at their Stella Maris residence in Los Angeles.

The scouts celebrated Mass with the women religious, prepared and enjoyed brunch with them, made floral arrangements and gift baskets and even put on a talent show, complete with dancing and piano playing. Each scout was paired with a sister throughout the day.

Many of the scouts and sisters exchanged addresses, and plan to write to each other. The scouts are also producing a mini scrapbook to send to the sisters.
