Women's legacy honored at Dolores Mission

San Gabriel Region

The legacy women have received from older generations of women and the heritage they hope to give to the next generation of young women was explored at the annual summer women's conference at Dolores Mission School in Boyle Heights.

More than 300 women, including teenage girls, from the parish and the surrounding community participated in the day-long event which included workshops on art and theater, nutrition, talking to children about sex, improving family communication, strengthening health through laughter, and creating safe communities.

"This is about women supporting women," said Claudia Martiņon, community organizer for Comunidad en Movimiento a program of Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission. "This was a day for women to share their lives and their legacy and help them to increase their self-esteem. We wanted to recognize women and all the work they do in the community."

Childcare was offered to 140 children so that mothers could attend the conference.
