Viennese choral group to perform in Ventura

Santa Barbara Region

The Wiener Vokalensemble Choir of Vienna, Austria, will perform classical music, Austrian folk songs, and American songs, both sacred and secular on Aug. 16, as guests of Sacred Heart Church, Ventura, and the Gold Coast Concert Chorus.

The Gold Coast Concert Chorus was founded in 1988, and its members present three performances each year in Ventura County: a spring concert of light choral selections; a holiday concert consisting of familiar favorites; and a third concert featuring choral classics. The chorus has sung at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York and toured throughout Europe. When the group was in Austria in 2001, it was hosted by the Wiener Vokalensemble for a joint concert. The Wiener Vokalensemble has responded by making Ventura one stop on its U.S. summer tour.

The 7 p.m. performance benefits the Biedermann Tribute Fund, a fund established to honor Sacred Heart's founding pastor, Msgr. Arnold Biedermann, and support the parish he helped establish nearly 40 years ago.

Sacred Heart Church is located at 10800 Henderson Rd., Ventura. Adult tickets are $15; tickets for children under 12 are $7.50. For reservations, contact Cindy Bayer, (805) 647-4582.
