Shakespeare at Cathedral: July 27-31

Shakespeare Festival/LA is presenting "The Comedy of Errors" on the plaza of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels July 27-31.

This comedy about mistaken identity seeks to make Shakespeare productions accessible to the general public and to introduce Shakespeare to young people. Period costumes will be used.

All performances are at 8 p.m., except for a 9 p.m. performance July 30. First-come general admission seating is free to the public. Guaranteed, preferred seating is available through the SFLA Membership Program starting at $18. For reservations (for general or preferred seating), call (213) 975-9891. For more information, visit www.shakespearefestivalla.org.

Cathedral Piano Recital: July 30

On a recently-restored Steinway Concert Grand Piano built in the 1920s, concert pianist Andrea Anderson will inaugurate a series of piano performances at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels July 30, 7 p.m.

Anderson will perform works by Bach, Mozart, Ravel, Liszt and Canadian composer Francois Morel in her performance. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Anderson was formerly director of music at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Pasadena, and has been lauded for her sensitivity and lyricism of playing, said Cathedral music director Frank Brownstead.

The Steinway piano was donated by Sir Daniel Donahue and restored by Teri Meredyth. "It is a marvelous instrument, built in the golden age of the piano," said Brownstead. "We have used it previously in liturgical celebrations, but this will be the first time it has been used in a recital."

A donation of $10 is suggested to support the Cathedral music programs. The recital will preceed the July 30 performance of "The Comedy of Errors" on the Cathedral Plaza. For information, call (213) 680-5205.
