Rader Foundation awards scholarships to HS seniors

San Gabriel Region
text only version

Two Catholic graduating high school seniors received college scholarships from the Lucille Rader Education Foundation.

This year's recipients are Karey Kowalski, of St. Lucy's Priory High School in Glendora, and Heidi Rocha, of Paraclete High School in Palmdale. In addition, Christine Totri of St. Lucy's Priory received an honorary scholarship for demonstrating excellence in writing.

The scholarships are designed to honor Catholic school senior female athletes who have demonstrated outstanding character and spiritual development while maintaining academic excellence. Lucille Rader, a former Immaculate Heart nun and teacher at Immaculate Heart School and Immaculate Heart College, set up the Foundation in memory of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary who staffed Immaculate Heart College and Immaculate Heart High School since 1906.

In the fall Kowalski will be attending the University of San Diego, Rocha will attend the University of Notre Dame, and Totri will attend UC Berkeley. Other finalists included Lauren Stefanko of Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, and Claire Tindula of St. Joseph High School in Lakewood.
