Sisters of Providence fete jubilarians

text only version

Two Providence Sisters with ties to Southern California will be among 20 celebrating significant anniversaries of their years in religious life Aug. 6 in Seattle.

One of seven celebrating their 70th anniversary as a religious, Providence Sister Mary Gleason (Sister Maria Theresa), was co-foundress, principal and teacher of Providence High School in Burbank. She later shared in the founding of John F. Kenney Memorial High School in Seattle.

Among six honored for 50 years in religious life, Sister Anita Butler (Sister Francesca) also taught at Providence High School, serving for a time as assistant principal. She was recently appointed provincial treasurer as well as a member of the 2005-09 leadership team. Seattle Archbishop Alex Brunett will preside at the jubilee Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church followed by a luncheon honoring the Jubilarians in the parish hall.
