Last fall, Ann Marie and Al Parisi of Agoura Hills celebrated their daughter-father bond by publishing "Lunch Bag Notes: Everyday Advice from a Dad to His Daughter" (Loyola Press, 2004). The book was a compilation of notes of fatherly wisdom, written by Al to Ann Marie on her lunch bags, notes that Ann Marie (now a sixth grade teacher at St. Jude School in Westlake Village) lovingly preserved by Ann Marie in a shoe box in her closet.
Now, a companion book of notes written by Al to his son Anthony (a senior at Agoura Hills High School) will be published this fall in "More Lunch Bag Notes: Everyday Advice from a Dad to His Son" (Loyola Press, August 2005, $13.95). With advice on such topics as apologizing, getting along with friends, making the most of every day, feeling good about yourself, and spending time with family, the books are designed to inspire teens to believe in themselves and make sound moral choices. Each inspirational and sometimes spiritual note is followed by questions for reflection and blank lines for journaling.
The
books "encourage positive parent/teen communication to help
survive difficult situations and preserve a loving family
bond," said Al Parisi, former chairman of the board and CEO
of Acqua Group Inc., a company he founded. Permanently disabled
since 1995 due to treatment of a malignant brain tumor, Parisi
is currently a stay-at-home dad and husband.
