Enjoying retirement, Campion receives college degree

Our Lady of Angels Region
text only version

Years after retiring from a stellar career in business and community service, Robert Campion recently received a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University of Chicago.

A parishioner at St. Sebastian Church in Los Angeles and a former Cardinal's Award recipient, Campion's education many years ago at Loyola University was interrupted by World War II. He did receive his CPA from the University of Illinois in 1949 and worked for a public accounting firm in Chicago until 1957, rising to the rank of principal partner.

Campion then moved to Los Angeles with his wife Wilma and their son Michael to work for Lear Siegler, Inc. His work earned him the positions of president and chief executive officer in 1971, becoming chairman, president and CEO in 1974. He retired in 1986.

Among his many commitments to the community, Campion served as a trustee of the University of San Diego and of Saint John's Health Center Foundation in Santa Monica, where he is still a director.

Jesuit Father Michael Garanzini, president of Loyola University awarded Campion his bachelor's degree. The university president deemed that Campion's vast and productive experiences more than made up the few units he was short when he left the college to serve his country in wartime.
