Cathedral schedules mourning observances

Upon the death of the Holy Father and Conclave to Elect a New Pope, Masses and prayer services are celebrated at parishes of the (arch)diocese for nine days following his death.

At the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, those observances began Sunday, April 3. Where possible, the auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese are presiding at Eucharistic liturgies; this week's presiders have included Bishops Thomas Curry, Edward Clark and Alexander Salazar. The schedule for the remainder of the nine-day period:

Day 5: THURSDAY, APRIL 7

7 a.m.: Mass

10 a.m.: Prayer

12:10 p.m.: Mass; Bishop Joseph Sartoris presiding

2:00 p.m.: Prayer

4:00 p.m.: Prayer

7:30 p.m.: Vigil before Papal Funeral Mass; Prayer Service and performance of Fauré Requiem.

9 p.m.: Tolling of the Cathedral bells. Cathedral lantern will remain lit throughout the night.

Day 6: FRIDAY, APRIL 8

7 a.m.: Mass

10 a.m.: Prayer

11:30 a.m.: Recitation of the Holy Rosary

12:10 p.m.: Memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II; Bishop Gabino Zavala presiding

2 p.m.: Prayer

4 p.m.: Prayer

Day 7: SATURDAY, APRIL 9

10 a.m.: Prayer

2 p.m.: Prayer

4 p.m.: Prayer

7 p.m.: Vigil Mass

Day 8: SUNDAY, APRIL 10

8 a.m.: Sunday Morning Mass

10 a.m.: Sunday Mid-Morning Mass

12:30 p.m.: Spanish Mass

Day 9: MONDAY, APRIL 11

7 a.m.: Mass

10 a.m.: Prayer

12:10 p.m.: Mass; Bishop Oscar Solis presiding

2 p.m.: Prayer

4 p.m.: Prayer
