Sr. Mary Ella Walker, BVM dies

Sister Mary Ella Walker

Funeral Mass was held Nov. 29 at Wright Hall in Chicago for Sister of Charity Ella Walker, 91, who died Nov. 23.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Sister Walker entered the BVM community in 1941. She taught in a number of Catholic schools located in Arizona, California, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. Locally, she taught at Holy Family High School in Glendale (1964-71) and later served as school secretary during the 1986-87 school year.

Burial took place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.

Fr. Robert Curtis, CSP
A Memorial Service was held Dec. 7 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Los Angeles for Paulist Father Robert P. Curtis, who died Nov. 16 after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Washington D.C., Father Curtis served as an associate pastor at St. Paul the Apostle Church from 1971-79, where he was active in producing children's religious theatrical productions. During the late '80s and early '90s, he ministered as a part-time chaplain at UCLA Medical Center.

Burial took place in Maryland.

Sr. Mary Damien May, SND
Funeral Mass was held Nov. 9 for Notre Dame Sister Mary Damien (Mary Martha) May who died Nov. 2 at the sisters' provincial house in Thousand Oaks.

Born in Ohio, Sister Mary Damien taught elementary school in the Ohio area for 23 years. After moving to California, Sister Damien served as principal of St. Helen School in South Gate. From 1958-75, she was the local novice director for the new members of the Sisters of Notre Dame.

Burial took place at Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley.

Sr. Eugene Connor, CSC
Funeral Mass was held Dec. 1 in Notre Dame, Ind., for Sister Eugene (Eugenia C.) Connor who died on Nov. 28 at Saint Mary's Convent in Notre Dame.

Born in Los Angeles, Sister Connor served as a music teacher in California, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. In Los Angeles, she taught religion and music at Catholic Girls High School from 1946-57 and also taught music at St. Paul School in the late '60s.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, 401 Bertrand Hall, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556.

Dennis Robert Coe

Dennis Robert Coe
Funeral Mass was held Oct. 28 at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes for Dennis Robert Coe, 57, who died Oct. 23.

Born in Mansfield, Ohio, Coe moved as a teenager with his family to California. A prominent advertising executive, Coe was actively involved in the Mayor's Private Industry Council for L.A., the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Los Angeles Children's Museum, Alternative Living for Aging and his parish.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, and children: daughter Hillary and son Whitney; his brother, David; niece Michelle De Mott; and grand nephew Jared Demott.
