World AIDS Day observances

text only version

World AIDS Day 2004 was marked locally Dec. 1 with a noon Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The Catholic HIV/AIDS Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is coordinating other liturgies, remembrances and actions this weekend, including:

---Dec. 4, where worshippers at the 5 p.m. liturgy at St. Andrew Church, Pasadena, are invited to join the annual the ASC Posada Walk in downtown Pasadena.

---Dec. 5, 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles, Cardinal Roger Mahony presiding; 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, North Hollywood, Auxiliary Bishop Gerald Wilkerson presiding; 12:30 p.m. at St. Louis de Marillac Church, Covina, Father Larry Dowdel presiding.

Father Chris Ponnet, HIV/AIDS Ministry coordinator, suggested that AIDS be mentioned in homilies and general intercessions this weekend. "The Scriptures of Advent call us into justice," he said, "and HIV/AIDS, like most illnesses, call us to stand up for those in need of health care, compassion and support, not judgment and hatred.

For information call Father Ponnet at (323) 225-4461, ext. 221.
