Holy Days information

text only version

The Office for Worship has issued the following information with regard to upcoming Holy Days and observances in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Dec. 8: The solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is a holy day of obligation, this year and always, regardless of the day of the week.

Dec. 12: The Third Sunday of Advent is also the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Las Maņanitas and the Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe may precede the regular Mass schedule, with the Third Sunday of Advent being celebrated at the usual morning Masses.

Dec. 25: On Christmas Day, parishes have the option of scheduling a Saturday evening Mass or not. If Mass is celebrated on Saturday evening, Dec. 25, the Mass is that of the Holy Family.

Jan. 1: The feast of Mary, Mother of God, also falls on a Saturday. Masses celebrated Friday evening, Dec. 31, and on Saturday morning, Jan. 1, celebrate this feast. Masses on Saturday evening, Jan. 1, and Sunday, Jan. 2, celebrate the feast of the Epiphany.
