St. Athanasius successful in getting
traffic safety gates installed

San Pedro Region
text only version

After a hard-fought battle with the city of Long Beach, St. Athanasius Church celebrated the placement of new traffic safety gates on Nov. 6.

After two children were hit by cars turning in front of the church in 2001, the Parish Organizing Committee researched solutions and brought over 500 people to meet with City Council members and the head of the traffic department to request the placement of the gates.

The members worked together to obtain the necessary city permits and raise funds for the purchase and installation of the gates.
