St. Matthias juniors promoted

San Pedro Region
text only version

On Nov. 10, juniors at St. Matthias High School in Downey were promoted to upperclasswomen during a special Rose Ceremony in which they received their class rings.

Over 500 students, families and faculty members shared in the festivities that included the well-known mariachi singer Tatiana Bolanos and her mariachi band and a special Liturgy service.

"Our juniors are very excited about the recognition of the upperclasswomen status," said vice principal Margaret Meland. "This gives them the opportunity to show the rest of the student body what tremendous leaders they are for the school."

The Rose ceremony dates back to the early years of the school and remains dear to all of St. Matthias' alumni noted Meland.
