Tom
Durkin, teacher and media communications focus program director
at Providence High School in Burbank, recently received word
that he has been accepted as a member of the prestigious Academy
of Television Arts & Sciences. The honor, usually only extended
to college-level media professors, is a reflection of the
high caliber of the school's four-year media program track.
"I
am delighted that the professional expertise and experience
of Mr. Durkin has been so recognized," said Providence High
School principal Providence Sister Lucille Dean. According
to Durkin, who started with the fledgling media communications
focus program in 1999, the academy induction will allow enhanced
educational opportunities for the students. Prior to his tenure
at Providence High School, Durkin was a professional actor
with recurring television roles on "General Hospital," "Days
of Our Lives," "One Life to Live," and "As the World Turns."
