After successfully surviving a liver transplant in 2001, Michael La Rosa was so grateful to God for his new-found health that he wanted to share his joy --- in a book.
"I wrote the book because I want others to believe that miracles are possibly in prayer and faith," says the St. Thomas More Church, Alhambra parishioner. "God wanted me alive and I am thankful for every day."
"God is Love, We are Love," is a spiritual/scriptural reflection
on modern day life that discusses the miracles of Jesus, parables,
the Holy Eucharist and finally, a chapter on the Blessed Virgin
Mary. "When you read the Scriptures, you see how sensitive
Jesus was to people's illnesses," he says. "He does care for
us."
Before
his liver transplant, La Rosa battled many other health problems
and survived being in 13 comas. He credits his family's prayers
and the will of God for allowing him to live today. "I appreciate
all the little things around me more," he says. "The birds,
trees, the sun. Those things we often take for granted."
Above all, La Rosa hopes that readers of his book will be moved to "live the Gospel of Christ and go back to the Father. We must always remember to keep praying, to be insistent and not give up." Copies of "God is Love, We Are Love" are $10 and can be found at Cotter's Church Supply and by calling (213) 385-3366.
